Throughout the year, the Foundation hosts events to support its cause of advancing and promoting the interests and development of Columbia Gorge Community College, its students and our communities.

Golf Tournament

Team Beam, Hoffman Construction top winners in 2012 Founder’s Cup

The Beresford Company’s Team Beam and the Hoffman Construction foursome earned first place honors and trophies in Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation’s 13th Annual Founder’s Cup Golf Tournament at Indian Creek Golf Course on August 4. The Beresford team carded a low gross score of 59 and Hoffman Construction’s team scored 59.83 to win the low net prize.

Griffith Motors and Insitu teams took second place in the low gross and low net categories respectively, while Valley View Appliance and the Fore Education team received trophies for third place.

Hire Electric’s golfer Kristen May and Beresford’s Jason Beam were handed first prize awards for being closest-to-the-pin winners. Power-hitters Shaun Siriwatanarong and Cristy Barsky shot the longest drives in the men and women’s categories. The Papa Murphy’s pizza contest winner was Jim Knudson.

Presenting sponsor of this year’s golf outing was Columbia State Bank. CGCC Foundation Executive Director Dan Spatz reported the golf tournament generated $17,000 for the CGCC Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Golfers of all ability levels are invited to participate in the 14th Annual Founder’s Cup golf tournament in 2013. For more information, phone (541) 506-6111.

Scholarship Social Night

CGCC Foundation hosted its first Scholarship Social Night on Thursday, Dec. 1, at The Dalles campus in the lecture hall. This social was an opportunity for donors and student scholarship recipients to meet each other. It was a fun evening for everyone who was able to attend, and the foundation plans on making this social an annual gathering. Honors Recognition Ceremony

Columbia Gorge Community College hosted its annual Honors Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, May 10, at 5 p.m. at The Dalles campus Class Act Cafe. The ceremony acknowledges the excellent work performed by its students, honoring those who have achieved the highest grade point averages at the College.

The College also recognizes one CGCC Foundation Board Director each year. Marilyn Urness, long-time community member, educator, and foundation board member, received the 2012 Distinguished Foundation Board Member award. The College appreciates Marilyn’s enthusiasm and support of education in our community. Thank you, Marilyn and the entire Urness Family!

Increasing awareness of philanthropy in Oregon

CGCC Foundation was awarded a Betty Gray Early Childhood Development Endowment fund grant in the amount of $6,900 by The Oregon Community Foundation. This grant, awarded under OCF’s Ready to Learn Program, will provide support for the Betty Gray Early Childhood scholarships in the 2012-2013 academic year for Columbia Gorge Community College students seeking degrees or certificates in early childhood education.
